Vivaldi’s Four Seasons comes to Alicante for candlelit concert at MARQ

Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons will be performed by candlelight at Alicante’s MARQ Archaeological Museum on Saturday, September 12, offering classical music fans an evening in one of the city’s most distinctive venues.

The concert begins at 8:30 PM and forms part of the Candlelight series, which presents live music in venues illuminated by thousands of candles. Tickets start from €22.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons takes centre stage at Alicante concert

The programme centres on Antonio Vivaldi’s best-known work, The Four Seasons, taking audiences through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

The Four Seasons was published in 1725 as a set of four violin concertos. Remarkably vivid for its time, the music depicts scenes including singing birds, thunderstorms, summer heat, autumn celebrations and the icy winds of winter.

Each season contains three movements, giving the solo violin a central role as the mood moves from the lively opening of Spring to the dramatic storms of Summer and the chill of Winter.

The programme will also include Vivaldi’s La Folia, adding another of the composer’s works to the evening.

MARQ Archaeological Museum provides candlelit setting for classical music

The performance lasts approximately 60 minutes, with doors opening an hour beforehand.

Late admission is not permitted once the concert has started, so visitors are advised to arrive in plenty of time before the 8:30 PM performance.

The Candlelight series is designed to combine live music with atmospheric surroundings, with thousands of candles illuminating the venue during the performance.

For the Alicante concert, that setting will be provided by the MARQ Archaeological Museum, giving audiences the opportunity to hear one of classical music’s most recognisable works in unusual surroundings.

The event is suitable for ages eight and over, with under-16s required to be accompanied by an adult.

The venue is also wheelchair accessible.

The concert takes place at MARQ Archaeological Museum, Plaza Doctor Gomez Ulla, Alicante, on Saturday, September 12.

Doors open at 7:30 PM ahead of the 8:30 PM start, with the performance lasting around one hour.
