Late Summer Soirée raises €5,500 for alzheimer’s charity

A night of music, dinner and fundraising at Miraflores Golf has raised €5,500 so far for AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa, with more money expected to be added over the coming days.

Tuesday’s Late Summer Soiree brought residents and supporters together for a charity dinner organised by Simply Thriving. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal, drinks and live entertainment, with Nathan Dean hosting together with performances from Alexandra Avery, Laura Carter and Stelvis, the Costa del Sol Elvis tribute act.

Money raised will help AFA support people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, as well as their families and carers.

Fundraising comes before World Alzheimer’s Day

The result comes just days before World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, when AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa will once again bring attention to the needs of people affected by dementia.

AFA will hold a reading of the CEAFA manifesto at 11.30am in Plaza de la Constitucion in Fuengirola. A fundraising table will also be set up next to Estanco Alonso in Las Lagunas from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

AFA’s work goes well beyond fundraising, with more than 120 people receiving daily support through its services, according to the organisation. Around 30 per cent of those receiving support come from Mijas.

New centre adds to AFA’s local work

AFA has also opened a new centre, giving local families another source of specialist support as the association continues its work with people affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Community events such as the Soiree provide an important way for residents to support that work directly, while also bringing people together around an issue affecting many local families.

Bigger stage, better sound

This year’s event also benefited from improved production. DJ Alex George loaned audio equipment for the evening, helping provide what organisers described as the best sound yet.

Ludo also kindly allowed the event to expand beyond the terrace, with organisers constructing a stage outside to give the performers more room.

With €5,500 already raised, the final total will give AFA another welcome boost as World Alzheimer’s Day approaches.
