Mijas road restrictions expected as triathlon returns to La Cala for September 2026

Get ready for the sweat,  as sports enthusiasts in Mijas will yet again be warming up and in training as they prepare to take part in the ‘V Triatlon Villa de Mijas’ on Sunday, September 27, competing across the town, coast and roads leading towards the Entrerrios area.

A fast and thrilling three-part course

This year keen athletes will be stretching their muscles  for an Olympic-distance trialthlon, starting before the sun properly heats up at 9pm, the grueling sporting event will feature a fierce 1,500-metre swim, a long 40-kilometre cycle and a final 10-kilometre run.

According to the official published 2026 event information, competitors will gather around Calle Benarraba in La Cala de Mijas before beginning the swim from the Playa del Torreon area. The cycle section will head inland towards Entrerrios before returning towards the coast. The final stretch will cover 10 kilometres along the stunning coastal boardwalk. The exact transition and finishing arrangements should be checked against the organiser’s final race instructions.

Be prepared for road closures and diversions

If you are heading out on Sunday morning or would like to cheer on the competitors as they complete the course, beware that temporary traffic restrictions are expected in La Cala de Mijas and along the roads used by the race. However, Mijas Town Hall has not yet published the official street-by-street closure plan, timings or diversion arrangements for the 2026 event.
