Wonderful weekend of music with very different styles, which to choose, at Salon Varietes this September

Anyone after a magical night out or two this month won’t be stuck for choice whichever your favourite genre may be, as Salon Varietes holds a weekend full of choice for music lovers in Fuengirola.

Friday: Welsh voices fill the air

Cor Meibion Onllwyn, the Onllwyn Male Voice Choir, performs on Friday, September 25. Formed by members from the Neath Port Talbot area, the choir rehearses weekly back home at the Onllwyn Miners Welfare Hall and has built it’s wonderful reputation on the kind of full-voiced, traditional Welsh singing that male voice choirs are known for, mixed with some more modern arrangements. Fuengirola is lucky to get this stop as part of the Spanish tour for the choir in 2026, which also takes in a performance at Gibraltar Cathedral.

Special guest for the evening is Bronwen Lewis, a Welsh singer-songwriter from Blaendulais who first appeared on The Voice UK back in its second series. She didn’t make it past the audition rounds on the show, but the exposure helped launch her career, and she went on to sing “Bread and Roses” for the BAFTA-winning film Pride. Expect a full entertaining more contemporary set than the choir’s own, giving the night a bit of variety.

Saturday: swing and jazz from Norway

Saturday, September 26 will deliver something completely different. Swing Compagniet, a 14-piece band from Norway billed as a “Little Big Band”, performs a set of jazz and swing songs including Sweet Georgia Brown, Fly Me to the Moon, Blue Moon, All of Me, Lady is a Tramp and Hallelujah I Love Her So, with Hit the Road Jack thrown in too. With a full horn section, saxophones and trombone among them, plus a lead vocalist out front, it’s the kind of band built for a full room.

Both shows are at the Salon Varietes Theatre in Fuengirola, starting at 7:30pm.
