Classic cars parade through Marbella and San Pedro’s streets in warm up act for the upcoming feria

San Pedro Alcantara and Marbella will host forty-five classic cars from across Spain this weekend, as the fourteenth ‘City of Marbella Vintage Vehicle Exhibition’ hits the streets.

A classic date for petrol heads across the town

Joss Luis Arredondo, president of the Costa del Sol Historic Vehicles Club, confirmed an incredible 45 vehicles have registered this year, travelling from Pontevedra, Madrid, Murcia, Almeria, Jaen, Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla, plus entries from the local area. Cars on show include several Mercedes-Benz models from the 1950s to 1970s, known to collectors and those in the know, by their nicknames — the Ponton, Adenauer, Pagoda, 190 SL and 450 SLC. Other entries feature a 1950s Rolls-Royce, a 1960s Lincoln Continental, three Fords built in 1926, 1927 and 1929, and a 1930 DeSoto.

Two-day route with a seafront finish

Friday’s leg sends participants from Marbella to El Chorro, the stunning gorge inland from Malaga, with a lunch stop before an evening return through San Pedro. Saturday is the main public date. Cars will drive through San Pedro’s streets before parking on Avenida Marques del Duero between 10.30am and 12.30pm for the traditional presentation. From there, the convoy moves through Nueva Andalucia and Puerto Banus, finishing on Marbella’s seafront promenade, where the cars will be on display for all to enjoy from early afternoon until 5pm.

How the event has local benefits

Organisers have booked 33 hotel rooms for three nights to accommodate participants. Arredondo said between 25 and 30 owners return each year, with 15 to 20 new entrants joining every edition. He added that the vehicles’ main value lies in keeping their original specification rather than being modified.

This year’s poster has a really modern edge, dedicated to women, its the first poster to have colourful, geometric designs applied to car bodywork. San Pedro’s deputy mayor, Javier Garcia noted that the gathering also doubles up as a lead-up to San Pedro Alcantara’s patron saint festivities coming soon in October.
