Football fans on the Costa del Sol have a chance to show their support both on and off the pitch this weekend as Estepona FC unveils a special charity initiative.
Ahead of International Breast Cancer Day on October 19, the team has launched a limited-edition pink and white shirt, with the profits going to the Estepona branch of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).
How to get your hands on the special shirt
Fans can pick one up at the official shop in the stadium from this Sunday, October 11, at 6pm. It costs €40, and the club has confirmed that the profits from every sale will support the AECC’s work in the town. As only a limited number have been made, supporters who want one may wish to move quickly.
Sales begin on the same day Estepona face Club Atletico Central. AECC representatives will perform the ceremonial kick-off, a fitting start to a weekend built around solidarity. Bigger moments follow on Sunday, October 18, the day before International Breast Cancer Day, when Estepona face Marbella FC where all eleven starters will run out in the commemorative shirt.
The faces behind the campaign
Three women from the local AECC group, all of whom have overcome breast cancer, were the stars of the show in the campaign photoshoot with players Cristian “Titi” and Bakary Sow joining them for the shots.
Club officials say “behind every figure there is a story, a person and a fight”. They want to reach women who have faced or are facing the disease, and the families and friends who walk that road with them.
Breast cancer touches many families, whether neighbours, friends or relatives, so a purchase like this can make a real difference. Buying a shirt supports this wonderful local charity that works on prevention, research and care for those affected, and it shows people in Estepona that their community is behind them.
Club officials have thanked the three women for their generosity and courage, as well as the club’s sponsors and the Estepona AECC for their commitment to the project. If you are planning to catch a match this month, consider wearing a touch of pink, or better still head to the official shop and pick up one of these limited-edition shirts.
