Homeowners in Andalucía could get up to 65% towards energy upgrades as applications open

Anyone in Andalucía who’s been putting off new insulation, air conditioning or solar panels because of the cost can now ask the regional government to pay for half or more. However, the grants only suit big projects, so it’s worth checking your numbers before you call a builder.

Applications opened at 9am Thursday October 22

Householders across the Costa del Sol, Almería and the rest of Andalucía can now apply for help paying for energy improvements, after the Junta de Andalucía opened its latest round of incentives at 9am on Thursday October 22.

For work on homes and residential buildings, the grant starts at 50 per cent of the eligible cost and can rise to 65 per cent when extra conditions are met, including adding renewable energy or using an energy services company (known as an ESE). It covers insulation, along with improvements to heating, cooling, hot water and lighting systems.

Solar panels qualify only with batteries

A separate route covers solar equipment for homes, but only when it comes with storage (a battery). Individuals can get 55 per cent, which can climb to 65 per cent in certain cases, including collective self-consumption (neighbours sharing the power), energy communities (local groups that generate and share electricity) and projects in small towns losing population.

The minimum grant rules out small jobs

However, an application has to reach a minimum grant of €10,000 for home energy improvements and €6,000 for solar. Those are minimums for the grant itself, rather than for what you spend, though they still add up to a big job. By our sums, the home improvement minimum needs roughly €20,000 of eligible costs at the basic 50 per cent rate, or around €15,400 at the top 65 per cent rate, while solar needs about €10,900 at 55 per cent or €9,200 at 65 per cent.

The percentages also apply to eligible costs worked out from the Junta’s own unit-cost price tables, so they may not match your contractor’s final invoice.

Work you’ve already started can still count

People who aren’t running a business can also apply for projects already under way, as long as the work began on or after Thursday May 1, 2025. Businesses don’t get that leeway, as they can’t have spent or committed anything before applying.

For grants above €15,000, applicants can also ask for an advance once the grant is approved, worth 15 per cent with no guarantee or 40 per cent with a bank guarantee.

The €20.77 million pot could run out early

Applications are handled in the order they arrive, and the call runs until Thursday September 30, 2027, or until the money runs out, whichever comes first. That €20.77 million is also shared with businesses and public buildings, so it may not last until the closing date.

So before signing a contract, ask your installer to work out the eligible cost, check it clears the minimum, and then apply online through the energy agency’s portal.
