Elche will step back into the Middle Ages this autumn as its 31st Medieval Festival brings more than two weeks of music, theatre, street entertainment and traditional celebrations to the historic centre. Running from October 23 to November 8, the Terra Regnum programme will include the Misteri d’Elx, a major Medieval Market and performances at venues across the city.

Medieval Festival opens with street performances

Elche will turn back the clock when its 31st Medieval Festival fills the historic centre with music, theatre, street entertainment and traditional celebrations from October 23 to November 8.

Held under the theme Terra Regnum, the festival opens on October 23 with Flamen al carrer by Spinish Circo.

FAM Teatre follows with Quimera on October 24, while the Elche Symphony Band performs on October 25.

The programme will continue across several locations, combining performances and cultural activities with some of Elche’s best-known traditions.

Misteri d’Elx remains at festival’s heart

The Misteri d’Elx remains at the heart of the festival. General rehearsals take place on October 30 at 9:30 PM and October 31 at 8:30 PM.

The official performance follows on November 1, with La Vespra at 10:00 AM and La Festa at 5:00 PM.

Elche singer Blanca Paloma will also feature in the festival programme on October 30, alongside free performances at Las Clarisas and events at Hort del Xocolater.

Medieval Market returns to historic centre

Another major attraction is the Medieval Market, opening at 6:00 PM on November 5 and continuing until November 8.

Stalls will spread across Plaza de Baix, neighbouring streets and the Glorieta, transforming part of the historic centre for the final days of the festival.

Last year’s market attracted more than 200,000 visits, making it one of the biggest draws of the wider Medieval Festival programme.

Festival poster celebrates women of Elche

This year’s festival poster was created by local artist Vicente Javier Poveda and pays tribute to the women of Elche, particularly the city’s traditional shoe workers.

The artwork adds a strong local connection to the 31st edition, linking the festival’s historic theme with an important part of Elche’s more recent social and industrial heritage.
