Fancy lacing up your trainers and joining a run beside the sea that could help change someone’s life? Torremolinos is inviting runners, walkers and families to take part in its first Ruta 091 charity race on Friday, October 30, with all proceeds going to Cruz Roja Torremolinos, the local branch of the Spanish Red Cross.
A race with a purpose
Organisers have designed the event for all abilities, from seasoned runners chasing an official time to families who just want to take part together. Adults will run 5.09 kilometres, and children can join shorter races on the same promenade.
Proceeds will support Cruz Roja Torremolinos, which helps vulnerable people in the local community. For expats and residents, it is a great opportunity to enjoy the coastline, meet neighbours and contribute to a cause with an immediate local impact.
When and where
Racing begins at 6pm on Friday, October 30, at the Paseo Maritimo. The start and finish are outside Chiringuito Mari y Sergio at Paseo Maritimo 16, near the El Galeon car park in Los Álamos.
Adults aged 14 and over will set off at approximately 6.30pm. Children aged 10 to 13 will run at around 6.15pm, and those aged four to nine begin at 6pm.
The route
Adult runners will follow a circular course of 5.09 kilometres. It passes Los Alamos beach and Playamar beach, turns at the Plaza de las Comunidades Autonomas roundabout and returns to the seafront finish.
Participants have one hour to complete the adult race. Runners with reduced mobility will start one minute early, and the course will be closed to traffic except for authorised, medical and emergency vehicles.
Children will run 400 metres if they are aged 10 to 13, with a 15-minute limit, or 200 metres if they are aged four to nine, with a 10-minute limit.
How to take part
Entry costs €13 for adults and €10 for children under 13, including administration fees. Places are limited to 750 adults and 250 children, and registration closes at noon on Monday, October 26, or earlier if the 1,000-participant limit is reached.
Entries must be made through the official Ruta 091 website. Every runner receives a race number and technical T-shirt, with sizes chosen during registration and no later changes permitted.
Adult race numbers include a timing chip for official results. People who prefer not to run can still help through the “Dorsal 0” charity number, which allows a donation of any amount; it does not include a T-shirt.
Collecting race numbers
Race numbers can be collected at the National Police station on Calle Skal 12. Collection times are October 28 and 29, from 10am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm, plus October 30 from 10am to 2pm.
Adults must bring identification. Under-18s require written permission from a parent or guardian, together with a copy of that person’s DNI. Runners aged 14 to 17 may enter the adult race, but organisers recommend that minors are accompanied by an adult throughout.
A first for Torremolinos
This is the first edition of the Ruta 091 charity race in Torremolinos, although the wider National Police series has taken place in towns and cities across Spain since 2017. Organisers hope it will bring police and residents closer together while raising much-needed funds for people facing hardship locally. For more information you can visit the ruta091 website.
