Binge, game and browse at 35,000ft: easyJet is bringing Starlink Wi-Fi to its planes from 2027

We all know the feeling, holding on until the last possible second to switch on the flight mode, following a delayed flight home, the kids restless, the downloads not working, and your phone showing no connection. Well fear no more. easyJet has just announced plans to change all that from 2027.

easyJet confirms Starlink Wi-Fi for the first time

easyJet has announced that it will offer onboard internet for the first time, in a collaboration with Starlink, the satellite network operated by SpaceX. Fitting begins in the first half of 2027 across its A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft, with completion expected by early 2028. Starlink will be installed progressively, so not every flight will have Wi-Fi at first. easyJet has not said which routes or aircraft will be done first. The announcement does not include easyJet’s older A319 aircraft, so passengers on those planes should not assume Starlink will be available

What you will be able to do in the air

Passengers will be able to stream, game and browse on their own devices, much as they would on the ground. Travellers who like to stay informed can check flight status through the easyJet app and website, or look up weather, transport and tourism information for their destination. easyJet also says the technology could let customers order from the inflight menu without leaving their seats.

easyJet carried 100 million passengers in 2025 and flies more than 1,200 routes to over 160 airports across 35 countries. It is also still relatively unusual in the European low-cost market, with major carriers including Ryanair and Jet2 not currently offering onboard Wi-Fi. Answering emails, working online or keeping children entertained could soon be easier, without downloading films the night before.

Why easyJet changed its mind and will it be free?

Cost was the sticking point. Earlier this year, easyJet said following talks with SpaceX that the economics were not quite working for it. Rivals have since moved ahead: Wizz Air has announced an agreement with Starlink to equip its entire fleet from 2027.

No details were provided about how much travellers will be charged for access, and easyJet has not confirmed whether it will be free, sold as an extra or offered another way. Some other airlines using Starlink offer a useful guide: several provide access free, either to all passengers or after a free loyalty-programme sign-up. That is no guarantee for easyJet, so keep your downloads handy until pricing is announced.

What the bosses say

Chief executive Kenton Jarvis said getting online in the air means greater choice and convenience, calling it “yet another way we’re making travel easy”. Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, said fast, reliable connectivity from take-off to landing will let people work, stream and stay in touch.

For holidaymakers, remote workers and families, easyJet flights could soon stop being a gap in your day, once the roll-out reaches your aircraft.
