A charity dinner in Fuengirola brought together food and generosity, raising approximately €620 for children in Cebu, Philippines.
Held at La Nave restaurant in Los Boliches, the fun Filipino-themed evening supported a fundraising campaign organised by Swedish musician and entrepreneur Spencer F. Strandh. Guests were treated to delicious traditional Filipino cuisine while helping to provide support for children involved in outreach programmes run by Ascension Lutheran Church (ALC) in Liloan, an area north of Cebu City in the Philippines.
Community support delivers successful fundraising evening
Organisers said the event raised around €620 (approximately 44,000 Philippine pesos), with the wider fundraiser reaching about €1,000 (around 71,000 pesos) so far.
Following the event, Strandh thanked everyone who attended and contributed, as well as La Nave Fuengirola for its hospitality and support in helping make the evening possible.
Guests enjoyed a selection of authentic Filipino dishes, including adobo, pancit and lumpia, with wine, beer or soft drinks included as part of the evening’s menu.
Inspired by family roots and a simple act of kindness
Strandh, who has Filipino family roots, said the project was inspired by experiences during visits to the Philippines.
One memory is still particularly important to him. During a visit to Cebu City, he met a young street vendor working in difficult conditions. After buying the child a cold drink, he was struck by how much a small gesture could mean.
Approaching his 29th birthday, Strandh decided to focus on helping others rather than receiving gifts for himself, launching a fundraiser that will continue until the end of the year.
Donations will fund essential supplies for children
Money raised will be used to purchase school materials, educational resources, arts and crafts supplies, food and other necessities identified by local partners. Around 20 children currently benefit from outreach activities organised through Ascension Lutheran Church in Liloan.
Strandh plans to travel to Cebu in January 2027, where he will personally purchase and help distribute the supplies with support from the church’s outreach team.
All donations will be used for supplies for the children. Travel, accommodation and personal expenses connected with the trip will be paid separately by Strandh and not from donated funds.
Strandh said he plans to share updates from Cebu after the supplies have been purchased and distributed.
How you can help
Many charity events raise awareness, but this Fuengirola gathering also delivered practical help. Thanks to the generosity of diners and donors, children in Cebu will receive resources that can support their education, wellbeing and daily lives in the months ahead.
