A simple idea combining art and poetry has raised an impressive €1,900 to help breast cancer survivors in Torrevieja. The Brotes de Una Nueva Vida, or Shoots of a New Life, campaign brought together two local residents, dozens of businesses and the wider community, turning €1 postcards into practical support for people recovering after cancer.
Art and poetry inspire charity campaign
Local residents Ana Cutillas Nunez and Eduardo Aranda Hortelano created the charity project Brotes de Una Nueva Vida, selling specially designed postcards for just €1 each.
Ana provided two original illustrations while Eduardo, a primary school teacher and poet, added his words, with the postcards reflecting the emotional journey from a cancer diagnosis through to hope and recovery.
What started as a creative fundraising idea quickly gained the backing of the wider Torrevieja community.
More than 40 businesses offer support
More than 40 local businesses and organisations helped support and promote the campaign, alongside donations from individuals.
Their efforts paid off, with €1,900 raised and presented to M Victoria Meneses, president of AFECANCER Torrevieja.
Every euro will now go towards the charity’s rehabilitation room, which supports people recovering after breast cancer.
The money raised means the small postcards will have a practical impact beyond the campaign itself, helping to support local people as they continue their recovery.
Postcard artwork carries important message
The artwork itself also carries an important message. It features a man and woman embracing around the familiar pink ribbon, recognising that cancer affects not only those diagnosed but also the families and loved ones alongside them.
The combination of illustration and poetry was designed to reflect both the difficulties surrounding a cancer diagnosis and the hope that comes with recovery and a new chapter in life.
Community turns creativity into practical help
Ana and Eduardo thanked everyone who bought a postcard, donated or helped spread the word.
At just €1 each, the postcards may have been small, but together they have turned creativity, kindness and community spirit into practical help for local people rebuilding their lives after cancer.
