Majority of Balearic residents have never moved for work

MORE than 62 per cent of residents in the Balearic Islands have never had to move for work reasons, according to a survey by Fotocasa.es.
Plus, almost 40 per cent continue to live in the town where they were born, the survey reveals. Only 16.1 per cent of people born in the Balearic Islands lives outside of Spain, although emigration figures are rising and 24.4 per cent would consider moving to another country if they could get work and 36 per cent would move house if they had children.
However, 24.2 per cent are reticent about moving and would not do so in the future even for work. Surprisingly, the survey shows that people between 18 and 30 in the Balearic Islands are those who have least had to travel to find work, and that most Balearic Islands residents live within 200 kilometres of where they were born and travel 45 kilometres (return journey) to their place of work.
