FARMER’S association Trops from Velez Malaga estimated that mango production will double this season. According to their calculations, the numbers will rise to 9,000 tons. This is a result of this year’s favourable meteorological conditions, recent facility improvements and the high profitability farmers can earn compared to other kinds of produce. Avocado production is also doing well in the area, which will yield a total of 12,000 tons this year alone.
According to the head of Trops, “our quality is better than any other countries’ crops”. Trops is currently the largest subtropical fruit producer in Spain, with 1,800 farmers spread over la Axarquia and the tropical coast of Granada.
