One Direction fans attacked

A group of unidentified men attacked Spanish fans of One Direction.

The teenage girls had been camping out for weeks at the Vicente Calderon stadium, Madrid, anxiously waiting for the concert they have been dreaming about for years.

The first One Direction fans, otherwise known as directioners, arrived on May 3 and immediately organised themselves in small groups.

Armed with mattresses, food, books, tents, iPods and One Direction albums, these brave teenagers are willing to sleep on the streets for the opportunity to see their idols up close.

However, they had been warned by security personnel of the risk they were running by sleeping in the vicinity of the stadium. “A lot of junkies and homeless people come here at night,” said one of the teenage girls talking to the media.

According to the directioners, a group of unidentified men arrived one night and threw bottles and metallic fences at the tents the girls had set up.

“People said they were Atletico de Madrid hooligans. The security guards did not come out until the police arrived,” complained another one of the girls.

They have now decided to only camp-out during the day and to keep a list to make sure nobody cuts in line.

The English-Irish pop boy band is scheduled to play in Madrid on July 10 and 11 after playing in Barcelona on July 8. Tickets prices are between €143 and €209. The first Madrid date is already sold-out. The Vicente Calderon stadium holds up to 54,960 people.
