FICUS removed from Paseo de Las Lomas in El Ejido will be transferred to the fair precinct.
They will be replaced with deciduous jacarandas, which will not block the sun in winter and will provide shade in the summer.
Many residents were indignant when the ficus were felled to make way for a cycle lane, one of six which will eventually ring the town.
The council has since announced that the ficus will be treated and replanted.
“We shall try to save as many as possible,” said El Ejido’s mayor Francisco Gongora.
“More foliage and shady areas will improve the fair site,” Gongora added.
