ELCHE has lost one of its two SAMU ambulances for the summer in spite of complaints that they are both needed.Although local Health councillor Cristina Martinez had recently said she had asked for the ambulance to stay and the regional health department had replied that it did not intend to move it, the order came through at the beginning of the month to send one to Santa Pola. The regional department announced that as in previous years it considered the ambulance was needed in the neighbouring area due to the extra visitors over the holidays. The ambulance is not the only health resource due to disappear for the summer as the Hospital General is also intending to close down 70 beds, unions complained.
