A CAMPAIGN for the surveillance of potential fires in the Sierra de Crevillent has been launched with the work being carried out by a total of 104 volunteers from various associations around the area. There are six associations that are actively engaged in the initiative, organising morning and afternoon shifts on a daily basis with volunteers carrying out monitoring on foot, by car or by bicycle, covering fixed monitoring points and routes including roads and forest tracks as well as high and low mountain areas. The volunteers carry out routine checks for signs of smoke and lights over long distances and also undertake to inform residents of the dangers of the uncontrolled burning of waste as well as the prohibited use of barbecues and fireworks.
