ONE of the first divorces by mutual consent in Spain held before a Notary was carried out in Estepona.
Since a new Voluntary Jurisdiction Law came into effect on July 23, the divorce process has become much quicker for couples who have been married more than three months, both consent to the divorce and have no dependents, as they may now do the deed before a Notary or Judicial Secretary rather than having to go through the courts.
The law does not apply if there are underage or dependent children involved as the Public Prosecutor’s Office is required to take part in these cases.
