A MORROCCAN man was arrested in Rincon de la Victoria after he allegedly threw stones at the alcove, which houses the Virgen del Carmen effigy.
The man was identified as AB, a 27-year-old without a previous criminal record who was caught red-handed at the spot after an off-duty police officer reported that he had witnessed the events at around 11am. Several police patrols attended the scene and took the man into custody for a religious hate crime.
According to the witness, the man hit the protective glass several times with a large stone and then screamed; “Allah is great.”
Damages have been valued at around €1,000 and the man is currently in custody and waiting to appear before a judge.
