WITH under a month to go, Bancosol (the Costa del Sol food bank) is still looking for volunteers for the Gran Recogida (Great Collection) in Fuengirola, Mijas and Benalmadena.
Bancosol coordinator Manuel Alarcon called for organisations and individuals who wish to take part in the campaign to sign up by calling 952 179 679 or emailing mrueda@bancosol.info.
Volunteers are needed all over the Malaga province as so far 4,100 people have signed up but between 4,500 and 5,000 are needed.
This year the Great Collection will have volunteers from all sorts of groups, charities, police forces, Boy Scouts, university students and religious groups, Alarcon said.
The collection will be held on November 27-28 at different shops and there will be three four-hour shifts on collection days with between two and four people manning stands at shops depending on size and space available.
Last year the association surpassed its goal of 600 tonnes of food by 100 tonnes and this year´s goal is between 750 and 760 tonnes.
Food donated at the Great Collection is distributed amongst 250 associations Bancosol works with which feed more than 550,000 people in Malaga province each day
