DENIA police surprised two fish thieves operating on the Cala Blanca beach in Denia.
The two men were acting suspiciously according to Local Police as they watched them enter the water in the early hours of the morning. At first glance they looked like normal divers with wetsuits, torches and other diving equipment.
However, after a short time they exited the sea and were found with more than 30 kilos of fish including squid and mussels. The investigation showed that they had swam out around 200 metres and stolen the fish from legal fish nets put out by local fisherman.
The fish recovered had a shop value of €500. The robbers had no fishing licence and it is believed that the nets were cut open with a knife.
