WHILE most Spaniards took the day off to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, tech wizards were busy with the official launch of a brand new ‘find-a-priest’ mobile application.
The software package, called Confessor Go, is a mobile app that allows users to find a priest near them who will hear their sins, and even provides a handy route to them.
Confessor Go is the brainchild of Father Ricardo LaTorre, who hopes to bring to Spanish-speaking countries in South America next year.
Thousands of people are already using the rough version launched in September in Spain and roughly 100 priests are participating so far across the country.
It could well be a risky endeavour. Latin American priests may find themselves hearing the urgent confessions of Mexican drug lords and already face kidnapping and death threats across the region, while in France a number of priests have been killed by jihadi terrorists.
