REPORTS are circulating that EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace has been suspended from the BBC soap after an alleged “incident” took place during filming.
Sources close to the long-running programme spoke to the Mirror and said that the actress, who is best known for her role as Kat Slater, will be “temporarily written out” of forthcoming plots.
The insider told the publication that 48-year-old Wallace had been called into a “crisis meeting” with producers after the incident, where her “inappropriate behaviour was called into question”. They added that scriptwriters are now coming up with a storyline to get Kat out of the soap temporary.
In response to the accusations, a spokesperson for the BBC said: “We don’t comment on artist’s contracts.”
The ‘suspension’ has been revealed just before the 35th anniversary celebrations for the soap begins, with producers promising gripping stories several specially televised episodes. Jon Sen, the Executive Producer of EastEnders said:
“For the 35th anniversary we wanted to entertain the EastEnders audience on the iconic river which has heralded the start of the show for 35 years.
“This unmissable week of episodes is destined to be exciting, gripping and heart-breaking – it will be a week that will go down in EastEnders history.”
