MORE than 200 hospitality businesses in Fuengirola have benefited from the council’s free door-to-door glass collection service.
THE initiative was launched in 2018, and last year alone 554 tonnes of glass was collected – an average of 46 tonnes a month.
“Fuengirola continues with its free door-to-door glass collection service launched thanks to the collaboration the council has with the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol and the Ecovidrio company,” said Councillor for Urban Cleaning and Ecology, Javier Hidalgo.
“Glass is collected door-to-door in the catering establishments of Fuengirola. Technicians from the Ecovidrio company visit the establishment, leave them buckets so that the hotelier can collect the glass and, around two or three times a week, the operators collect them, guaranteeing the recycling of this type of waste,” he added.
According to Ecovidrio, the glass recycling data from the establishments in Fuengirola “is quite good”, with businesses either using the door-to-door service or the ecological containers and islands located on public roads.
“We are going to continue insisting on this type of campaign so that little by little all the catering establishments in Fuengirola recycle 100 per cent,” promised Hidalgo.
Any businesses interested in the service can contact the cleaning department on 952 582 320 or by emailing: cleaning@fuengirola.org
