Woman ends ‘too busy’ UK holiday in Cornwall early and says Newquay should be on travel ban list.

Ali Arnison, from Leeds, headed out on a 300 plus mile trip to have a family holiday but was shocked when she discovered just how busy Newquay was. She found restaurants packed but having “no staff” and supermarkets crowded, but again having “no staff and empty shelves” due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Her family sadly gave up on the holiday and headed home early instead.

Ali took to Facebook and said: “Had to come home early from Newquay. The place needs putting on the banned list of places to travel.”

“There are so many cases of Covid down there, no staff in restaurants as they’ve all got Covid, but they’re still packing people in.

“Ridiculously busy supermarkets with no staff and empty shelves.

“Even remote beaches were heaving, just no escape at all from the crowds. I feel so sorry for the locals.”

Other Facebook users soon sympathised with her. “As an ex Northerner who lives down here, completely sympathetic with you. Boardmasters coming up next week and roads are gridlocked,” commented one person.

At the moment visitors are not getting a great experience and Visit Cornwall’s Malcom Bell said: “Visitors are not getting a good experience, locals are frustrated and systems can’t cope”.

The number of visits to Cornwall at this time of year are up, and according to the BBC and Visit Cornwall the expected 180,000 visitors has increased to 210,000 people who are trying to enjoy their holidays in the area at the moment.
