In the months before the Christmas holiday season, you might be starting to plan what to do with your kids to keep them entertained.

We’re here to take away some of your preparation stress by showing you a few activities you could do this festive season to keep your little ones entertained and occupied – with a seasonal twist of course.

Whether you’re planning a festive getaway staycation to a static caravan, lodge or cabin, here are a few things you can do on a variety of Christmas breaks UK this winter season to keep the kids entertained and bring the festivities away with you.

Festive baking

There’s nothing more Christmassy than baking your own mince pies or gingerbread. Not only does it result in some delicious treats for all to eat, but it creates a festive aroma within your home away from home too.

If making gingerbread people, you could decorate them with icing to look like they have a Christmas jumper on, or maybe use Christmas sweets for buttons. If you make a house from scratch or buy a ready-made ready-to-assemble pack, you could decorate it to look like your house or even your holiday home.

Christmas movie night

In many households around the world, it isn’t officially Christmas until you’ve watched a certain movie. If your home is one of these, why not save the annual tradition for when you’re away in your home away from home?

Some extra ideas for maximum cosiness – set some mood lighting, either with the open fire or some fairy lights twinkling, some baked goods, a cosy blanket and some hot chocolate with squirty cream and marshmallows on top… yum!

Sledging

If your staycation takes you near some rolling hills that are covered in snow, how about a spot of sledging?

One of the best things about sledging is finding the perfect hill to ride down. Not only this, but it’s great fun for all ages, so whether you have little ones that would need to ride with you, or those that are a little older and feel brave enough to sledge it alone, this activity could be one they’ll remember forever.

Paper snowflakes

This crafting activity not only creates unique Christmas decorations but also helps your child to develop their hand-eye coordination and creativity skills.

All you need is some paper and scissors. Of course, for younger crafters, they’ll need supervision with the scissors.

Here’s how you make a paper snowflake:

  1. Fold your paper diagonally.
  2. Cut the excess rectangle off at the bottom.
  3. Fold the paper in half again.
  4. Flatten the paper.
  5. Cut along the edges in shapes and patterns you wish (remember to keep some of the edges).
  6. When happy with your cutout shapes, open your paper to reveal your unique snowflake.

You then have the option to hang your snowflakes with string or stick them to the windows with white tac.

These are just a handful of the many festive activities you could be doing in your home away from home with your kids this festive season!
