Highly popular bowls event, The Miraflores Open, concluded on Saturday, November 9 with all finals in different disciplines being contested.

The event was supported by Ibex Insurance, and the week saw many battles across all disciplines. The Mixed Triples event, held in the morning due to a duplication of finals qualifiers, was contested between Andy Woodings, Martin Sheehy and Pat Baker of La Posada Bowls Club and the home team from Miraflores, Morrow Horner, Ella More and Robert Godfrey. The game saw many twists and turns, but Andy’s team won 10-8 after 10 ends.

In the Mixed Pairs, Pat Baker and Juan Abeal and Bernt and Tommy Dahlgren were contestants. The format was played in sets, and many matches needed an extra ends playoff to determine the winner. The Dahlgrens got off to a storming start winning the first set comfortably 12-1, but Juan and Pat won 7-4 in the second set. A 3-end play-off ended 1-1 after 2 ends, and the final end was decided by an extremely close measure.

Following the final, the Club President made a brief speech thanking the players, spectators, sponsors, Terry and Morrow, and Heather and her team for keeping everyone fed and watered throughout the competition. Paul from sponsor’s Ibex Insurance provided permanent trophies, cash prizes, and wine to the winners and runners-up. A prize draw for a bottle of Brandy was also held, with prizes donated by a local hairdresser and several restaurants.
