Multicultural Benalmadena will be celebrating the Chinese New Year on Sunday, February 2, in Plaza de la Mezquita.

Organised by the local council and the Asociación de Chinos Unidos de la Península Ibérica, the event will start at 11am and continue on to 3pm. One of the highlights will be the parade from the Arroyo de la Miel commuter station to leading to the Plaza de la Mezquita, featuring a dragon dance and a lion show, music and dance performed by 300 people.

Already waiting in the Plaza de la Mezquita will be stalls selling promotional products and information about the Chinese language and culture, as well as stalls of drinks, desserts, and typical and traditional Chinese food.

The celebration also includes the participation of a large number of artists and dancers, about thirty volunteers and technical staff, teachers, and students, with singing and dancing performances.

The Councillor for Foreign Residents, Presi Aguilera, said that the idea forms part of the preliminary project for the Hispanic-China Friendship Park, an area that needs €15 million in investment. The local government is seeking a Chinese investor who would be interested in helping to fund the unique project.
