Barça wonderkid Lamine Yamal has officially signed a new deal to stay at FC Barcelona until June 2031, securing his status as one of the club’s highest-paid stars.
FC Barcelona announced on Tuesday, May 27, that 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal has renewed his contract until the end of the 2030/2031 season. The deal includes a net salary of around €20 million per season, with performance-based bonuses that could push it even higher. The renewal puts to rest speculation over the teen’s future amid rumoured interest from major clubs, including a reported €200 million offer from PSG and a €275 million offer from Manchester City.
Lamine Yamal: Cornerstone of Barça’s future
The new contract keeps Yamal at Barcelona until he turns 24. Club president Joan Laporta oversaw the signing at the Spotify Camp Nou offices, with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes also present. The deal comes after months of behind-the-scenes negotiation, with Barcelona keen to reflect Yamal’s growing importance to the team.
According to Marca, Yamal’s buyout clause remains set at €1 billion, reaffirming his position as one of the few “non-transferable” players in the squad.
Despite already having a contract valid until 2026, Barcelona chose to fast-track a renewal and revise his salary and clauses to match his elite status.
“Lamine didn’t ask to be the highest-paid player on the squad; it’s not his priority,” said sporting director Deco, as reported by Marca.
The rise of Lamine Yamal
Yamal made his first-team debut in April 2023 under then-coach Xavi Hernández, before even turning 16. Since then, he has racked up over 100 appearances, becoming an essential part of both the Barcelona first team and the Spanish national side.
He already boasts an impressive list of honours:
- 2 La Liga titles
- 1 Copa del Rey
- 1 Spanish Super Cup
- 1 UEFA European Championship
- Golden Boy award
His standout performances during the 2024/2025 season have confirmed his place in the global football elite, with 20minutos describing him as “one of the best footballers in the world.”
Barcelona’s move to secure Yamal’s future aligns with their goal to build the squad around home-grown talent. As one of the club’s most valuable assets, both on and off the pitch, Yamal is now considered central to new coach Hansi Flick’s plans.
The Catalan club has rejected numerous offers for the teenager and made it clear they see him as irreplaceable.
With his €20 million-a-year contract now confirmed, Barça fans can look forward to seeing Lamine Yamal light up games until at least 2031.
