First Elche-Alicante Marathon unites the two cities

On November 30, 2025, two neighbouring cities, Elche and Alicante, will host the inaugural International Elche-Alicante Marathon – a 42.195‑kilometre test that begins in Elche and finishes in Alicante.

With more than 4,400 registered runners and an international participation rate of roughly 25 %, as well as representing over 50 nations, this event marks a major milestone in regional sport and cooperation.

Two Cities, Shared Finish Line

The mayors of Elche and Alicante, Pablo Ruz and Luis Barcala respectively, signed a collaboration agreement at Elche’s town‑hall to launch this race that will unite their cities in one continuous route.

The event is seen as more than a running competition – it symbolises cultural, tourism and economic ties deepening between the municipalities.

Organised by Club Atlético Montemar and supported by 300 volunteers, the race aims to become a fixture in Spain’s marathon timetable. Its debut already boasts global interest.

A Unique Route, A Shared Identity

Starting near the Palacio Altamira in Elche, runners will cross municipal boundaries, travel almost entirely flat terrain, and end at Alicante’s port. In keeping with its dual‑city identity, the official medal will incorporate the ‘Dama de Elche’ icon and Alicante’s Monte Benacantil.

A Step for the Future

This first edition is clearly more than a one‑off. Officials emphasise its continuity and legacy.

As Ruz says: this marathon “deepens the stable relationship between two of the most important cities in the Valencian Community”.

The success of participation in this year’s run will pave the way for future editions and further joint projects in mobility, cultural exchange and tourism between Elche and Alicante.
