A bizarre and terrifying road incident took place on Saturday, November 29, midday on the A7 motorway in Algeciras when a grey van struck a Glovo delivery motorcyclist and continued driving with the injured rider clinging to the vehicle’s bonnet.
The accident occurred around 12.20 – 12.30pm, according to witnesses, at the busy ramp onto the A-7 in the direction of Malaga, next to the Puerta Europa shopping centre, one of the most congested areas in the Campo de Gibraltar region during weekends.
Shocked drivers in jam raise alarm
Witnesses reported that the van hit the motorbike from behind while merging onto the motorway. Instead of stopping, the driver kept going, dragging the rider, who ended up sprawled across the front of the van. Shocked drivers honked their horns repeatedly, and several tried to alert the van driver, who eventually stopped after being intercepted by Guardia Civil traffic officers before he could leave the Algeciras area.
A video recorded by another motorist quickly went viral on social media on 29 October 2025, showing the Glovo rider desperately trying to hold on and signal the driver to stop while lying on the bonnet in moving traffic.
Driver arrested, motorcyclist treated at scene
The Emergencias 112 coordination centre received multiple calls about the incident and immediately dispatched Guardia Civil Traffic units and medical teams to the scene. The delivery rider was treated by paramedics at the scene; his condition has not been officially disclosed, though witnesses described him as conscious but clearly injured. The van driver was arrested and taken into detention. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances and what charges will be applied, not least for not stopping at the scene of an accident.
Concerns have been reignited over road safety in the Campo de Gibraltar area, where heavy traffic, frequent lane changes, and high volumes of delivery riders on two wheels create a volatile mix on a daily basis.
