THE GLITTERING region of Murcia has once more shown itself to be a top travel destination in Spain, with the statistics to back it up. Jetcost, a travel booking website that finds deals for flights, accommodations, and rental cars, has released its data for New Year’s Eve holidays for the year, and according to the numbers, a large proportion of Europeans who spend their holidays away from home will do so in Spain … and not only this, many of them are heading to marvellous Murcia for the end-of-year celebrations.
Murcia, a year-round destination
With its mild weather, coastal magic, rich culture, and fun-filled cultural events and festivals – and not to mention the delicious cuisine – Murcia is a top choice for holidaymakers to spend the end of the year. In addition, Spain has more affordable prices than many other tourist-heavy countries, putting it ahead of its European counterparts Italy, France, and Portugal.
The data suggests that for those travelling between December 26, 2025 and January 4, 2026, a large majority of European holidaymakers have opted for Murcia. In fact, it is within the top 15 travel destinations most requested by Britons at number 11, and by Germans and the Dutch it sits at number 15.
Britons overwhelmingly choosing Murcia, and staying longer, too
Additionally, according to figures from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics, or INE, nearly 120,000 British tourists arrived in Murcia in 2025 and stayed for a relatively long period, an average of nine days. June was the busiest month for the region in this regard, with more than 24,000 British holidaymakers stopping by to enjoy the sandy shores and the charming local culture.
The longer stays and arrival of tourists even in the off-season bode extremely well for the Murcia economy. The figures continue to cement Murcia as a year-round, popular destination that can be lively at any time, even in the off-season, and Britons continue to be Murcia’s biggest fans.
The top travel destinations for the end-of-year celebrations in 2025 for Britons, according to Jetcost, are as follows:
- Alicante
- Tenerife
- Malaga
- Lanzarote
- Madrid
- Barcelona
- Gran Canaria
- Palma de Mallorca
- Fuerteventura
- Sevilla
- Murcia
- Ibiza
- Valencia
- Granada
- Bilbao
