Key developments are underway in Huércal-Overa as the Provincial Council of Almería and the Town Council of Huércal-Overa join forces to deliver a series of major infrastructure projects aimed at improving the quality of life for all residents. With works set to begin in early 2026, these initiatives represent a significant step forward in the town’s ongoing transformation.
With a combined investment of over €3.3 million, the projects will focus on enhancing the town’s appearance, accessibility, safety and public services, reinforcing Huércal-Overa’s position as a key hub within the Levante Almeriense region.
Improving Southern Access
One of the most impactful projects centres on improving access to the southern area of Huércal-Overa. Designed to increase safety, comfort and traffic efficiency, the scheme will include the construction of a new single-lane roundabout, corrections to existing road alignments and reinforcement of road surfaces.
Pedestrian safety is also a priority, with the installation of new pavements, pedestrian crossings and a concrete staircase to better connect nearby residential areas. In addition, essential infrastructure such as water, sewage and lighting networks will be upgraded, alongside the installation of new video surveillance cameras to enhance public safety.
Revitalising the Historic Bullring
Another key development is the planned remodelling of Huércal-Overa’s historic Bullring, originally built in 1901. Once restored, the venue will be transformed into a versatile, multi-purpose space capable of hosting bullfighting events, cultural performances, sporting activities and community gatherings.
The refurbishment not only preserves an important piece of local heritage but is also expected to boost community spirit and stimulate the local economy by attracting visitors and events back to the town.
New Headquarters for Regional Cooperation
The third major project involves the construction of a new building that will serve as the headquarters of the Association of Municipalities of the Levante Almeriense. Located near the town’s bus station, the modern three-storey facility will provide more than 1,170 square metres of office space.
This development will strengthen regional cooperation, facilitate administrative work and reinforce Huércal-Overa’s leadership role as a centre for services and governance within the Levante area.
Strong Institutional Collaboration
The President of the Provincial Council of Almería, José Antonio García Alcaina, praised the strong collaboration between the two institutions, highlighting its role in delivering tangible benefits for residents. He described the projects as “fundamental to improving the quality of life of all residents,” underlining how coordinated investment creates opportunities and long-term prosperity for the town.
Together, these projects mark a new chapter in Huércal-Overa’s development, combining heritage preservation, modern infrastructure and regional leadership to support sustainable growth well into the future.
