GUARDAMAR DEL SEGURA recently celebrated one of the highlight events of their “Mig Any Fester,” or Mid-Year festivities, marking the halfway point between last year’s Moors and Christians celebrations and this year’s. The Mig Any festival concert, which was performed at the Auditorium of the School of Music on Saturday, February 7, united neighbours, merrymakers and visitors in Guardamar del Segura for a special cultural event that served as a major highlight for the municipality’s February cultural calendar.

Guardamar’s midway merriment: the Mig Any Festival

The event was organised in collaboration with the Central Board of Moors and Christians and was open to the public so that everyone could take part in this special cultural show. During the concert, the Guardamar Musical Group performed a specially selected programme of festive music for the year, featuring special Moorish and Christian marches that are emblematic of the town’s musical identity, called pasodobles. One of the most anticipated moments of the event was the premiere of the pasodoble “Natalia,” which will also become part of future celebrations.

In addition, the event included an awards ceremony for the local photography and shop window competitions, adding a fun competitive edge to the event and encouraging citizen participation and creativity during the Mig Any festival.

Along with the concert, the Youth Social Centre was open during the morning and afternoon, offering activities including board games, foosball, ping-pong, air hockey, and a recreation area. A guided tour, “Memory of Sand,” also took place, allowing residents and visitors to explore the Castle, the Rábita, and the Fonteta, as well as take a free walking tour to the geodetic marker, in both Spanish and English.

Guardamar continues its cultural offering into February

Throughout February, Guardamar del Segura will continue to offer cultural, youth and leisure activities for various different audiences, continuing to establish the municipality as a cultural and social hub on the Costa Blanca. As the Mig Any festival comes and goes, Guardamar residents are reminded that this year’s edition of the Moors and Christians festival is already on its way, and the town – and indeed the whole of the coastline – is looking forward to it.
