Dolores launches gender equality programme for International Women’s Day

AHEAD of International Women’s Day, Dolores has presented a programme of activities that will run throughout March and April for the awareness and education of teenagers and children about equality in workplaces, schools and homes. The programme forms part of the XX Gender Equality Conference 2026, and will continue until April 30 with a variety of activities available, including performances, shows and workshops.

Dolores celebrates local women with varied cultural and educational programme

The programme has already kicked off on a high note: on Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3, the Dolores Local Police gave a talk about gender equality at the San Pascual Secondary School. Following this, International Women’s Day will arrive in Dolores on Sunday, March 8, and the Councillor for Equality, Carmen Gil, will read the manifesto commemorating the date at the entrance to the Town Hall at 12:00pm.

Continuing with the programme until April 30, the schedule includes a performance of “A Crime Without a Hat” at the Museo de la Huerta, performed by local talents, the Cristina de la Vega Studio Dolores theatre group on Saturday, March 14.

Sunday, March 29, will see a performance of the show “Gamberra’s” by Doble K Teatro and Bulebú Teatro at the Municipal Auditorium at 7:00pm. Following these performances, the municipality will continue equality workshops through April.

International Women’s Day on the Costa Blanca and beyond

Municipalities like Dolores are gearing up for this important day of observance; International Women’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday, March 8, and local municipalities and big cities in Spain will see a variety of cultural events, social gatherings and massive demonstrations in anticipation of this important day of observance. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women in regards to their autonomy as well as their economic, social and political freedom.

Demonstrations and protests will be widespread across the country, particularly in big cities like Madrid and Barcelona. Residents can expect an outpour of events, festivities, demonstrations in the streets, and the colour purple as a highlight feature of International Women’s Day, or 8M.
