Torremolinos will once again show its community spirit this April as the ‘Torremolinos TEAcompaña’ Solidarity Walk returns for its third edition, bringing residents together in support of autism awareness.
Held under the slogan “Different steps, the same destination,” the event is predicted to attract hundreds of people from across the town and wider province. Organisers hope to see the streets filled with supporters wearing blue, with families, neighbours and local groups coming together for a cause that continues to touch many lives across Malaga.
The walk departs from Plaza de Andalucia and goes through several parts of Torremolinos
The walk forms part of activities linked to World Autism Awareness Month, shining a light on a condition that affects more than 20,000 people in Malaga province alone. The day is intended as a visible show of support for children with autism and their families, while also encouraging greater understanding and inclusion in everyday life.
This year’s walk will take place on Saturday, April 11, slightly later than usual due to Holy Week. Participants will gather from 10am in Plaza de Andalucia, where they can collect their race bibs and event T-shirts before setting off at 10.30am. The route will pass through several central parts of Torremolinos, including Plaza de la Union Europea, Calle San Miguel, Avenida Joan Miro and Calle Fernando de Prado, before finishing at the Town Hall, where a manifesto will be read and performances will take place.
Children of all ages can enjoy the activities in the Botanical Gardens
After the walk, the day will continue at the Molino de Inca Botanical Garden from 12.30pm, with a family-friendly awareness event featuring activities organised with local associations. There will also be food and drink stalls, inflatable play areas and games designed so children of all abilities can enjoy the day together.
Solidarity bibs are already on sale for €5, with extras including blue scarves, T-shirts and an option for those unable to attend in person. Funds raised will go towards free occupational therapy sessions for children supported by the TEAcompaño Association, which organises the event. The project has been valued at €15,000 and aims to provide support throughout the school year.
For many families the walk is a chance to be seen, heard and supported by the wider community. For more information and for links to buy the bibs please visit the Torremolinos culture department website.
