Mediterranean jazz sounds are hitting Torremolinos this weekend as Kalendimia are appearing at Clarence Jazz Club on Saturday, April 18 at 10pm
Kalendimia are a jazz quartet with a sound and vibe shaped by a broad mix of influences. The group draws inspiration from artists such as Tigran Hamasyan and Led Zeppelin and fuses it with ideas from musical traditions around the Mediterranean, including Turkish dances and lullabies. The band performs original authentic material written by all its members.
The mixture of all the member’s individual input blends to make a unique sound
The collective approach is one of the group’s most endearing features. The compositions are created within the band to create a recognisable sound. For audiences going along to enjoy their music, it means a set of tunes rooted in jazz but with other textures, rhythms and melodies.
The band features German Villegas on piano, Sylvain Rouviere on electric guitar, Eric Kopetz on double bass and Lucas Zegri on drums. The four musicians bring experience from different parts of Spain and Europe, with backgrounds linked to conservatory study, touring work and jazz projects in cities including Granada and Barcelona, as well as in France.
For local music followers, the concert is a chance to hear a contemporary group working with original material and a clear Mediterranean identity. Jazz at the heart with outside influences woven into the material for a unique sound. acts. The venue is perfectly set up for the job with seating close to the stage, a relaxed atmosphere, drinks and cocktails and a late night moody feel. The club is located at Calle Danza Invisible 8, open from 8pm to 2am from Wednesday to Saturday.
