La Cruz de Mayo has a historic meaning, this christian tradition is linked to the cross of Jesus Christ and was historically celebrated in Spain on 3 May as the Feast of the Holy Cross. Over time, this religious day has blended with springtime traditions that welcome the warmer weather, flowers and new life after winter, bringing us what we see in the current day. People decorate crosses with colourful flowers and place them in streets, squares and courtyards as a symbol of faith, renewal and community spirit. In towns across Andalucia, including Estepona, the festival is also a chance for families, neighbours and local groups to come together with music, food and celebrations.
Head to Plaza Begines Estepona to enjoy this spring floral display, 12pm. For more information visit the town hall website.
