The traditional Fiestas de la Rosa 2026 begins this Thursday, April 30, in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, marking the start of ten days of culture, music and community spirit. Running until Sunday May 10, this year’s programme has been carefully curated by the local Festivals Department and organisers, offering a vibrant mix of religious traditions, family events and lively street celebrations.

Festivities open with a more spiritual tone, including masses and a three-day period of prayer dedicated to the Virgin of the Rose. Alongside these traditions, the first days also introduce a relaxed, community feel with storytelling sessions, children’s songs, social gatherings and a barbecue. The evening atmosphere builds early on, with a Bitsound mobile disco setting the tone for the celebrations ahead.

Floral offering and music mark the main weekend celebrations

While the opening days ease the town into festivities, the main celebrations begin on Saturday, May 2. The day starts with a family laughter workshop at the local library, before attention turns to one of the most visually striking traditions: the floral offering.

From late afternoon, participants gather before making their way to the Oratory in a colourful procession. Children and adults carry bouquets and floral arrangements through the streets, accompanied by the town band and the Colla La Llebetjà group. Traditional dance also plays a key role, with performances from the Grup de Danses Morro Falquí adding to the spectacle.

To ensure the procession runs smoothly, organisers have established a structured order, beginning with dance groups and children, followed by residents, associations and festival participants, before closing with the Agrupación Musicomunicipal Santa María Magdalena. The evening culminates in live music, with the Gravity orchestra performing on Avenida de València.

The “blessed loaves” tradition takes centre stage

One of the most anticipated moments arrives on Sunday, May 3, with the Day of the Rose and its unique “pans beneïts” tradition. In preparation, around 120 loaves of bread are transported to the Oratory, decorated with roses and placed into baskets.

Following a blessing ceremony at the church, a procession winds through the streets as participants distribute pieces of the blessed bread to residents waiting at their doorways with plates. This deeply rooted custom remains one of the most distinctive and cherished aspects of the festival.

Later that day, a solemn evening procession honours the Virgin of the Rose, Saint Pancras and Saint Louis, followed by a fireworks display at Portalet and live music at the festival headquarters.

Food, bulls and community spirit fill the week

Celebrations continue into the week with a blend of tradition and entertainment. On Monday, May 4, religious services are paired with children’s activities, while the symbolic appointment of the Mayor of San Pancras from the Town Hall balcony sets the rules for the upcoming costume day.

Food once again becomes a focal point, with a giant paella served to attendees and live music performances bringing energy to the streets. From May 5 to 10, daily young bull releases take place in the Avenida de València area (except Saturday), alongside affordable evening meals organised by the Peña Taurina and late-night music events.

Costumes, parades and a grand finale

The festivities reach their most playful peak on Saturday, May 9, during the much-loved San Pancracio costume day. The morning begins with a traditional “despertà” wake-up call, followed by informal parades and children’s games.

At lunchtime, the competitive spirit takes over with a paella contest, where participants compete for cash prizes. The highlight of the day is the costume parade, departing from the casal festero, with awards given for the most creative outfits.

As the evening unfolds, Avenida de València transforms into an open-air party with music, while festival organisers distribute sandwiches to participants who follow the costume rules set earlier in the week.

Bringing together tradition, gastronomy and entertainment, the Fiestas de la Rosa 2026 once again showcase the unique identity of Benitatxell – offering locals and visitors alike an unforgettable celebration in the heart of the Costa Blanca.
