The Costa del Sol community are invited to take part in the inspiring pre-dawn walk for Afesol.
Residents and visitors are being encouraged to sign up for the major charity event, Darkness Into Light Walk. A fundraiser dedicated to mental health awareness and helping to prevent suicide.
Scheduled for Saturday, May 9, this emotional and meaningful walk invites participants to begin in darkness and finish at sunrise, symbolising hope, renewal, and support for those affected by suicide and self-harm.
Organised locally with the incredible AFESOL Mental Health, the event supports the work of Pieta House, who provides free counselling and crisis services. By taking part you offer a simple yet powerful way to contribute to life-saving initiatives while standing in solidarity with others.
Multiple coastal locations make joining easy
Accessible walk routes have been arranged across several areas, including Benalmadena, La Cala de Mijas, and Estepona. The selection of locations gives many more people the chance to sign up and take part for the worthy cause.
Registration is easy through eventmaster and allows participants to select their preferred starting point and prepare in advance because it is an early start. Early arrival is encouraged with walks beginning at approximately 6am to coincide with sunrise. Comfortable clothing and visible attire are advised for safety and ease.
Meaningful participation creates real impact
Every single step taken during Darkness Into Light contributes to essential mental health services. Vital funds raised help maintain Pieta’s free support programmes, including therapy and helplines for those unfortunately in crisis.
There is also the important role the walks play in reducing stigma and encouraging open and honest conversations about mental wellbeing.
Many participants return year after year, some sadly walking in memory of loved ones with others there to support friends and family members. First-timers frequently describe the event as both emotional and uplifting.
Sign up now and be part of something that matters
Taking part in Darkness Into Light offers more than just a walk it provides a chance to make a difference, support vital services, and share a powerful moment with others.
If the walk is not possible for you but you like to be involved, you can create your own DIL solidarity event, anything from a bake sale, a car wash, a sponsored silence challenge, a race or a swimming tour. Anything you decide is a huge help to the charity.
Further details, including registration and location options, can be found on the official Eventmaster listing.
