The Costa Blanca town of Benejuzar, located just to the west of Algorfa, has officially set a date for the long-awaited return of its Popular Retreat, an open activity that will be enjoyed by locals and visitors in the community. The 2026 edition of the Popular Retreat will once more fill the streets of this charming Costa Blanca town with music, colour, and participation on May 30.

This popular parade is back on the Costa Blanca

The Popular Retreat, or “Retreta Popular,” is a parade that will set out at 8:00pm from the corner of Avenida Constitución and Calle Canteras. Every year, the festive parade unites countless locals and tourists to the municipality, including groups, clubs, neighbours, and families, to have a good time and share in a festive community spirit.

The parade forms part of the patron saint festivities of the area, as well as the Benejuzar edition of the popular Moors and Christians festival, a traditional and cultural celebration that is carried out in many parts of Spain and especially on the Costa Blanca.

Residents eager to participate in this year’s edition

It has become an established route that inspires coexistence and citizen participation in a creative atmosphere. The parade is characterised by bright colours, as the locals dress up as popular characters and gather in town. Previous editions have featured participants dressing up as characters from the Super Mario Bros franchise, Disney characters like Aladdin, The Smurfs, Trolls, football players, and even giant chickens.

Those who want to participate in the parade can register by filling out the two the forms available on the Benejuzar municipal website. Registrations can be made from May 13 to May 27 at the Benejuzar Town Hall, from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 1:00am.

Officials encourage all locals and visitors to join in on this edition, which is sure to see great participation, success, and joy from the excited locals.
