Nerja will explode into celebration mode on Friday, May 15, with revellers, horse riders and decorated carts flooding the streets for the famous Romeria de San Isidro 2026. Held in honour of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, this special event celebrates the agricultural heritage with a bit of everything, music, dancing and traditional festivities.
Nerja streets will fill with joy
At 11am the day will kick off at the Church of El Salvador, where a special mass will be held with performances from Los Ortigosa and the traditional giving of fruits in honour of San Isidro Labrador. Folk groups from Nerja and Maro will then perform outside the church before the pilgrimage sets off at midday.
Hundreds of pilgrims dressed in flamenco outfits and traditional Andalusian costume will join horse riders, ox carts, tractors and flower-covered carriages for the colourful route towards the Cueva de Nerja. The streets filled with music, dancing and cheering crowds will support the procession through the town until around 3pm.
From noon till night at Nerja Caves
As the pilgrims arrive to place the image of San Isidro into the saint’s hermitage at the Nerja Caves, traditional dances by the Christian David Callejon group will be there to greet them
Activity areas have been set up for everyone to be able to take part with a youth entertainment zone, children’s attractions and a specially prepared horse area for riders and equestrian displays.
The party continues in the stunning cave fairground where music, DJs and dance performances will be pushing the celebrations from afternoon to evening. DJ Pepe Mesa, DJ Monchi and DJ Dani Gonzalez will keep you dancing and entertained at this exciting outdoor fiesta.
Transport has been considered to make the day run smoothly with special shuttle buses between Nerja town centre and the cave complex operating from 12pm until 11.30pm for visitors attending the event.
The Romeria de San Isidro in Nerja is Friday, May 15 from 11am, for more information visit the Nerja town hall website.
