Calvià steps into the spotlight with new film festival partnership bringing cinema to Mallorca

Calvià is strengthening its position as a destination for cinema and audiovisual production through a new collaboration with the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival (EMIFF).

The partnership will bring screenings, industry events and opportunities for filmmakers to the municipality between September and November, as Calvià continues its 2026 “Year of Cinema” programme.

The initiative is designed to put the municipality’s beaches, landscapes and tourism locations in front of an international film audience while also supporting local creative talent.

Cinema comes to Magaluf

The programme gets underway on September 23 at Shallow Beach at INNSiDE by Meliá Calvià Beach in Magaluf.

The event will provide a preview of the 15th edition of EMIFF and introduce the festival’s Made in Balears selection, highlighting audiovisual productions created in the Balearic Islands.

For Calvià, the event is also an opportunity to demonstrate that the municipality has more to offer than its established tourism image, using cinema to showcase its scenery and different locations to filmmakers and industry professionals.

Open-air films at Port Adriano

Cinema will then move to Port Adriano on October 23 and 24 for “Cine con Coche”.

The event will turn the marina’s car park into an open-air cinema, with two film screenings scheduled on each evening.

The unusual setting is intended to give audiences a different way to enjoy the seventh art while bringing the festival programme directly into one of Calvià’s best-known locations.

Celebrating Balearic filmmakers

The collaboration will continue during EMIFF with an event on October 30 at Meliá South Beach.

The evening will mark the 20th anniversary of the Associació de Cineastes de les Illes Balears, with a programme combining industry discussions and screenings of films produced in Calvià.

The event will provide a platform for filmmakers from the islands while highlighting the role Mallorca has played as a location for audiovisual productions.

Calvià has increasingly promoted itself as a filming destination, with its varied coastline, urban areas, countryside and tourism infrastructure offering a wide range of potential locations.

International filmmakers invited to explore Calvià

The programme will conclude on November 4 with Mallorca Go!, an initiative bringing international filmmakers to Calvià to discover potential locations for future productions.

The visit is intended to create direct links between the municipality and the international film industry, potentially opening the door to future filming projects.

For the local council, the partnership is about more than individual screenings. It forms part of a wider strategy to use cinema to promote Calvià, encourage audiovisual activity and strengthen links between local talent and international professionals.

By combining public screenings with industry-focused events, the municipality is using its 2026 Year of Cinema to put Calvià firmly on the map for film lovers and filmmakers alike.
