It might not become a local bylaw just yet, but it certainly has proven popular with the electorate. Anthony Bermúdez Beltrón, mayor of Alhaurin el Grande, launched a strong public rebuke after a video captured a woman dumping rubbish in the street. He suggested leaving three or four of her dumped containers at her home entrance to turn it into a makeshift tip. This action, he added, might make her reconsider her complete lack of civic responsibility.
Video evidence shows clear act of brazen dumping
Bermúdez Beltrón shared footage showing a white van stopping beside apparently empty containers. A woman then discarded various items and waste directly onto the ground instead of using the proper bins. The images had been pixelated for legal reasons. Council workers from Paprec and local staff had just cleaned the area shortly beforehand.
Fines and public backlash follow the incident
The local police have confirmed the woman faces a substantial fine for the illegal deposit. Residents reacted strongly to the mayor’s message, with dozens of comments supporting his stance. Users described the behaviour as dirty and uncivic, calling for the penalty to serve as a clear deterrent. Several demanded public exposure combined with fines to create real embarrassment for those caught.
Community calls for stronger action against fly-tipping
Many noted the incomprehensibility of the act given the available space inside the containers. Commenters urged simple solutions such as opening the bin lid. Others pushed for tougher measures overall, including increased surveillance and security cameras in problem spots to make people think twice before dumping.
Residents report similar rubbish issues across town
This case prompted further complaints about ongoing problems in locations such as Camino Viejo de Malaga, the industrial estate surroundings, and areas near Plaza La Legión in the centre. Locals claim rubbish and abandoned items continue to pile up in these zones despite repeated clean-ups. Bermúdez Beltrón‘s post has drawn attention to broader concerns about illegal dumping in the town and the need for serious enforcement.
Local council plans to deter future offences
The council stresses that such incidents waste public resources and damage community standards. The mayor’s direct approach has led to wider debate on how best to tackle fly-tipping through education, fines, and monitoring. Residents hope visible consequences will reduce these selfish acts and keep streets cleaner for everyone.
