Santa Pola is preparing to welcome summer in running shoes as the town’s revived night race returns on Saturday, 6 June with a fast 10K route beside the Mediterranean.
The popular event will take runners along the seafront, marina and town centre, bringing back one of Alicante province’s best-known athletics races after strong public demand for its return. Organisers hope the event will once again become a regular fixture on the Costa Blanca sporting calendar, attracting both competitive athletes and recreational runners.
Organisers from Club Atletismo Santa Pola say around 2,500 runners have already registered despite strong competition from other major races taking place across Spain. The high level of interest highlights the enduring popularity of running events in the town, which is already well known for hosting one of the country’s most famous half marathons.
Fast Course and Festival Atmosphere
Unlike Santa Pola’s famous January 10K, this race has been designed with a more relaxed summer atmosphere. Four DJs will perform along different parts of the route from 7:00 PM onwards.
Club president Roque Alemañ described the course as fast, flat and scenic, using sections of the famous Santa Pola half marathon route while offering constant views of the Mediterranean Sea. The race begins at 9:00 PM on Avenida Fernando Pérez-Ojeda, allowing runners to enjoy cooler evening temperatures.
There is also expected to be strong competition among elite runners. Sponsor Gran Premio Traumatología Doctor Soler is offering €1,000 bonuses for anyone breaking the course records of 27:46 for men and 31:32 for women.
Before the race, participants will be able to visit a runner’s fair beside Castillo Fortaleza to collect race numbers and shirts and enjoy the pre-event atmosphere.
With thousands of runners expected and a unique combination of sport, music and coastal scenery, organisers are hoping the return of the night race will mark the beginning of a new summer tradition for Santa Pola.
