The protocol can be performed without intravenous contrast administration and without prolonged apneas, improving patient tolerance and comfort
The Vithas Alicante Hospital has launched a new cardiac magnetic resonance imaging service with MyoStrain technology. With this incorporation, the centre is at the forefront of preventive cardiology, offering a precision diagnosis capable of identifying cardiac dysfunction of the heart early.
MyoStrain technology represents a quantum leap compared to conventional MRIs. While a standard study can last between 45 and 60 minutes, this new tool quantifies myocardial function in just 12 beats and 10 minutes. Among its main clinical advantages is the possibility of performing the examination without the need for gadolinium administration in certain patients and without requiring prolonged apnea maneuvers, thus facilitating the performance of the test in patients with functional limitation, anxiety, respiratory distress or lower tolerance to prolonged studies.
Integrated into current Cardio-Magnetic Resonance Imaging protocols, it will shorten the patient’s examination time, achieving a comprehensive study of both the function and the characterisation of the myocardial tissue. Commitment to technological excellence Alejandro Cañamaque, managing director of Vithas Alicante and Vithas Medimar, highlighted the strategic importance of this launch for Alicante’s healthcare: “The incorporation of MyoStrain reaffirms our commitment to precision medicine. Not only are we reducing wait and diagnosis times, but we are offering our patients a life-saving tool by detecting heart problems long before they are evident in traditional tests.”
Likewise, Cañamaque underlines the human approach of this technology: “We know that undergoing an MRI generates anxiety in many patients. With this system, we eliminate the need for contrast punctures and the discomfort of prolonged apneas, making the experience in our hospital much more agile and comfortable.”
Benefits for specific patients Although it is indicated for the general population, the Vithas Alicante Hospital highlights its special usefulness in:
- Cancer patients: To monitor the possible cardiotoxicity of chemotherapy treatments.
- Athletes: To evaluate the real state of the heart under high-intensity efforts.
- Patients with risk factors: People with hypertension, diabetes or obesity who want a thorough check-up.
- Post-COVID after effects: To detect possible inflammation or residual dysfunctions.
