Fuengirola drivers face a new reason to keep one eye on the speedometer, as a new enforcement measure has stealthily snuck in without many noticing it on Avenida de las Gaviotas following the installation of a new hi-tech speed camera.
Alan Boardman shared the news recently through his social media, complete with clear photographs of the equipment.
Installation details from recent post
Alan described the camera as newly placed on the road section connecting the Torreblanca roundabout to the A7. He remarked that the existing 40 kilometre per hour speed restriction applies throughout. His post serves as an early warning for anyone travelling that route regularly, where many will recognise that it’s all too easy to slip up and go a little beyond the maximum limit.
Boardman posted the information to help others avoid any nasty surprises from the new hi-tech gear. Photographs in the post show the typical housing for such devices on a boulevard at the side of the road which carries a lot of traffic from Benalmadena into Fuengirola.
Why caution matters now more than ever
It has been said that a speed camera was located is a similar position before, but wasn’t catching out many drivers over the limit. However, this new hi-tech one looks the business! Everyone who drives in Fuengirola needs to reduce speed immediately on this stretch. Fixed-camera issues fines automatically once operational. Obeying the limit protects lives (people in flip-flops can’t cross the road quickly) and prevents unexpected fines from catching people out.
Recent road improvements have made the carriageway wider in places. Some local comments online mentioned increased speeds after those changes. This installation addresses concerns raised by residents about dangerous driving habits. Drivers report seeing more vehicles exceeding limits following the recent widening of sections on the avenue. Extra care helps maintain safety for all users of the road.
Advice for all road users
Check the speedometer often when passing through the area. Mobile apps and navigation systems sometimes flag known enforcement points, but new ones require extra vigilance. Passengers can also remind drivers of the limit on this particular section of road, so don’t shirk responsibility just because you’re not behind the wheel.
Official confirmation status
As of the date of publication, the council and local police have not released formal statements about this particular installation yet. Community reports like the one from Alan Boardman often precede official notices in such cases. Drivers should treat the camera as active from now on to stay safe. Regular checks on local authority websites or social channels will provide updates when they become available. Everyone gains from responsible driving regardless of enforcement presence.
