Each year, the municipality of Moraira comes alive at the beginning of summer with one of its most authentic and beloved community traditions, the cultural Fiestas de la Font Santa. In late June and early July, this vibrant, week-long event offers a beautiful blend of deep-rooted history, religious devotion, and socialisation among locals and visitors, drawing crowds to the warm and welcoming town in the heart of the region.

The story of Moraria’s emblematic Ermita de la Font Santa

The festivities, which are set to take place from June 25 to July 1, are centred around the iconic Ermita de la Font Santa, a white-and-blue fifteenth-century chapel steeped in folklore. According to local legend, the patron saint San Vicente Ferrer performed a miracle here by making a fresh water spring flow out of the dry ground to quench the thirst of his sister, Constanza. Today, the festival honours this memory. It formally begins with the rhythmic pealing of church bells and the traditional “entrà de la murta,” a parade where streets are freshly carpeted with myrtle branches.

Modern music, food, and fireworks: Giant paellas and a youthful atmosphere

While primarily a traditional and religious event, the festivities have a major focus on youthful energy and dynamic local entertainment. The programme will feature lively, open-air musical performances, late-night discos, and community dinners, called sobaquillos, where families can bring their own food and share with friends, neighbours, and loved ones under the stars.

Some of the highlights of this festival include interactive beer tastings, giant paella-cooking contests, and the offering of local savoury pastries, called cocas. Bull-running events and fireworks displays will also light up the Mediterranean night sky during these vibrant festivities.

The Font Santa Festival is not only a fun occasion for families and neighbours to take part in; it also is a testament to Moraira’s lasting history, strong cultural heritage, and unshakeable community bonds. For anyone near this charming Costa Blanca town this summer, this will be an unmissable summer experience, blending strong heritage with contemporary entertainment.
