Residents and visitors in Benissa will be able to carry the town’s latest information in their pocket this summer as the municipality unveils a new mobile application, with the upcoming Moros y Cristianos celebrations serving as its first major trial run.

The initiative aims to make it easier for people to access event schedules, local updates and practical information directly from their smartphones during one of the town’s busiest and most important annual festivals.

Festival chosen for pilot launch

Benissa Town Hall has selected the Moros y Cristianos festivities as the ideal testing ground for the new digital platform. The celebrations attract large crowds every year and feature a packed programme of parades, concerts, embassies, fireworks and cultural events spread across several days.

By launching the app during the festival period, the council hopes residents and visitors will use it to stay informed about event timings, locations and any last-minute updates, while also helping officials gather feedback before a wider rollout.

The app is available for download now and is expected to become a key communication tool between the town hall and the community.

A digital step forward

The move reflects a growing trend among municipalities across the Valencian Community to embrace digital tools that improve communication and public services. Similar festival-focused digital initiatives have appeared elsewhere in recent years, helping residents navigate busy celebrations more easily.

For Benissa, the new application represents an opportunity to modernise how information is shared while enhancing the experience for those attending local events. The pilot phase will allow the council to assess how the system performs under real-world conditions before introducing additional functions in the future.

Moros y Cristianos set to draw crowds

The launch comes as Benissa prepares for another edition of its popular Moros y Cristianos festivities, which run through late June and culminate with the spectacular gala parade, embassies, music performances and traditional celebrations in honour of San Pedro Apóstol. The festival remains one of the most important dates in the town’s cultural calendar and attracts visitors from across the Costa Blanca.

If the pilot proves successful, the new app could become the main hub for municipal information year-round, helping residents stay connected to local news, services and community events long after the final Moros and Cristianos parade has passed
